Well it's officially Fall...so that means craft time at my house! I "borrowed" this cute craft from My Heart's Desire. Since I am a UCLA Alumni clearly this football isn't for me...it is for my twin sister who is a USC grad...bless her heart! :) So what do ya think?! Super easy and super cute!

Well my twin and I celebrated our *39th* birthday this past weekend! The celebration started on Friday at work. My office clerk bought my pink roses and surprised me with a beautiful cake.

On Saturday I decided to make my twin a cake. I ended up making two cakes, one round cake and one square cake. I used cake tattoos. Since my parents are out of town we ended up having a small BBQ with a small group of friends and family. The cake, with the edible tattoos were pretty yummy! :)

The cake and party continued when I got to work today. One of my tutors, who is also a sorority sister, made me this beautiful pink and green cake. The cake was delicious. It was so pretty I didn't even want to cut it! :) My assistant principal continued with the pink and green theme and gave me some Godiva chocolates and truffles.

I had an amazing weekend full of cake, cake and more cake. I am pretty luck since I am only working 4 days this week. On Friday a co-worker and I are off to Vegas for another co-workers wedding. I return Sunday night and Monday morning, my nephew ERD and I are off to our NYC and Boston trip! I can't wait...

Summer 2011

Well its summer once again. Summer means vacation fun! This summer I am taking my nephew,ERD, to New York and Boston. I am super excited! I was in NYC two years ago on a field study trip for work. That was the same summer I then flew to Tennessee and met my nephew for our Nashville, Franklin and Memphis trip. When I was in NYC we had a jam packed schedule. I am hoping to replicate the sites and scenes with ERD, who has never been to NYC. A few weeks ago I was in Boston for an educational conference. It was my first trip to Boston and I loved it. It was perfect that this conference was in Boston, since it gave me a chance to get to know the city before ERD and I return in a few weeks. I think he is going to really love this summer trip. I know I can't wait! I am already planning next summer's trip. I am planning to take him to Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana! So if any bloggers are from these fabulous states, please share with me the MUST sees- PLease send me your ideas!!! Thanks in advance.Believe it or not I am planning next summer's trip based on a few boutiques I am dying to visit! :)

I first saw this on Facebook. I posted this on my FB status and got immediate responses. So I thought I might as well try it here on my Blog- Here is the idea:

Hello 2011- Happy New Year

Happy New Year blogger friends! :) I had a pretty low key last night (NYE). I went to my twins and had dinner. We watched Sex and the City 2 (again) and had fun joking with friends and family. I ended up going home around 10:30 and actually went to bed by 11:30. Pretty low key and uneventful, but I was OK with that...Woke up by 8 am, got up, showered, dressed and took the puppies on their morning walk.

It is so cold here in So California. I wont even mention how cold (50 degrees), since I may offend readers in the south and the east! Sending prayers to the people of Arkansas, given the horrible tornado. Twin and friend picked me up and we went shopping to Tai Pan Trading. I love this store! We had lunch at Fuddruckers-(my first visit) and it was delish! I had a gift card for Nordstrom that was burning a hole, so we went to the mall. I am on a tight budget this week so I was really conservative in my shopping...I got a few items at Bath and Body Works (most items I got were 75% off!) and Old Navy ($3.95 tanks). We were gone for most of the day so the puppies and I took our last walk for the night and I started watching the OWNetwork. Its pretty good...I think most shows that peaked my interest will start this fall...Thank goodness I have one more day before I return to work on Monday. I am looking forward to a promising new year- wishing you all happiness, lots of love and good health!

Thanksgiving Week...

Wow! I think the older I get the faster the years seem to fly by...does anyone else feel this way too? Such an amazing year. Met boy. Had a few lovely months with boy. Boy left the picture. Went on vacation with the nephew, ERD. Had the best time! Wished for the next few months I was still in Savannah and or Charleston. October started off with a scare. Lincoln displayed signs of bladder stones. And sure enough, almost one year to the day of his surgery last year he was in the ER again and had to have a second surgery. :( Let's just say the surgery basically made him a female. Well not really, but he now pees like a girl. Hopefully this surgery and his new diet will not bring back any more stones. After all, mama can't afford another surgery! My poor baby. He is doing fine now, but what a stressful time.
So needless to say I didn't get to plan the puppies Halloween costumes- I originally wanted them to be Alvin, Simon and Theodore. But time got the best of me so I just recycled costumes from 2 years ago. Franklin was Spiderman, Lincoln was Peter Pan, and Madison was a bumble bee. They looked so cute and helped me pass out candy. OK, so they really didn't help me, but they sure did look super cute.
I have been lurking lately. Reading TONS of craft blogs and making some cute stuff. Here is my simple fall wreath, my monogram burlap frame (see the idea here) and my Advent Calendar (borrowed the idea from here).

Well I guess that's it for now...I will leave you with a picture of Madison. She went to vote with me earlier this month. I usually take all 3 but let's just say it's a lot easier to punch a ballot with one Yorkie...plus Lincoln, a Republican and Franklin, a Democrat usually don't see eye to eye on election day, so they stayed at Nana and Papa's when I went to vote! :) Happy Thanksgiving to y'all!

Winter- Spring-Summer Update! WOW~ Have I been gone that long?

I'm back. I can't believe that my last post was in January. So much has happened- so many good and not so good memories. I think one reason I stopped posting to my blog is because I began this addiction with Facebook. With that being said, let me just let you know that the puppies (Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt and Madison (above) are all doing fine! :)
In January I began to really become addicted to posting my life's happenings on Facebook. I met a real cute and sweet "guy"- who happens to be a family friend, I guess you can say... His sister is married to one of my cousins. Well in January we began talking, initially through, you guessed it: Facebook! Don't you just love those Inbox messages? :) Well I was totally taken by storm~ and the next few months went by and I have such wonderful memories.

In April the family went to Vegas for my nephew's 13th b-day party weekend (his choice)! We had a great time...I ended up driving home alone, which was a cool 4 hour drive as I was able to listen to my new found love- Country music! By the way so far I have attended 2 country music concerts and have 3 more scheduled. My 1st country concert- Tim McGraw and Lady A. In July it was Sugarland. I'm going to see Rascal Flatts, Lady A (again) and Carrie Underwood- all in October! Boy! Why did it take me so long to enjoy listening to Country!?

In Spring things slowed down :( and I began to plan my annual summer trip :)with my nephew ERD. If you remember I took him to Nashville, Memphis and Franklin Tennessee last year- after I fell completely in love with Nashville the summer before while on a business trip. Well this summer we decided to continue the "Southern" tour. This year I decided to add as many Lilly Pulitzer's shops as I could and I had a blast. We began our trip in Savannah (LOVE) and then headed to Andersonville to tour the National POW museum. From there we went to Warm Springs, Georgia to visit FRD's Little White House. We got caught in a few Southern thunderstorms- my nephew loved the storms, his Tia De, not so much, since I was the one caught driving during the storms. I have never experienced such a down pour, especially living in Southern California my whole life. We continued to Atlanta and took a stop at Stone Mountain (AMAZING). Since we were in the area we drove to The University of Georgia. I was hoping to get the puppies a UGA Bulldog t-shirt. We drove to Athens and it was sort of late on a Sunday, so we didn't make it to the bookstore, but we did drive around campus and we passed by sorority row- I fell in love with the Delta Zeta house @ UGA (BEAUTIFUL). I was not very impressed with Atlanta (sorry) but it was just to modern and reminded me too much of Los Angeles.

We continued our vacation with 5 days in South Carolina (LOVE)! I want to secretly pretend I'm from South Carolina. I headed back home with palmetto tumblers, stickers, a necklace pendant, a palmetto ring, etc. On our way to Charleston we drove through Columbia. Of course we had to stop at USC! We got off and walked the campus and even made a trip to the bookstore. It was so neat, especially since students were on campus for what appeared to be orientations. Again we visited the sorority and fraternity houses and again I fell in love with the DZ house @ USC. Charleston was only a short hop, skip and jump from Columbia- at this point we had driven EVERYWHERE. And oh yeah, the deer that was on the side of the road, that scared the he-be-je-bee's out of me, is something also that was new to this southern California native- wild animals on the side of the road? Huh? I am only used to seeing skunks on the sides of the road! :) Fort Sumter was awesome and the ghost tours and walking tours were unforgettable. We had such a great time, even with the heat index being close to 105 the last week and a half in June. The travels continued in July. My sister in law treated my mom, my twin and I to a girls birthday party weekend at Mirval Spa in Tucson. Amazing. Since then it's been smooth sailing, well sort of. I'm still talking to the January guy and I still think he is a pretty amazing guy. I am so happy to see that Fall is soon approaching...this allows me to begin planning next summers trip- I'm planning on taking ERD to Boston and New York!
I'm sure there are tons of memories and events that I am forgetting, as I try to recreate Winter, Spring and Summer- However my objective is to return to blogging with an equal balance of posting on Facebook- still not sure how to join the two mediums. I hope you all are taking time to reflect on the summer months and begin planning for fall and winter. Good bye summer 2010 and Happy Labor Day!

Move In Day and Life in General

Well I closed escrow on Sept 5 and I have yet to "fully" move in. After waiting a year to have the house built, you'd think I'd move in the day I got the keys. I have most of my large items, that have been in storage this past year, moved in (ie. new bed, dining room table, couch, etc). But I don't have my shutters and or curtains installed yet and I still have lots of clothes at my parents home still. Last weekend I did sleep over and it was great. I have yet to try the commute to work, from my new house. The puppies had a ball. We ended up going on 4 walks last Saturday. They loved sniffing around and exploring the new house and community. In September, Madison had her 2nd birthday. She is the youngest out of the 3 puppies. No large party this year, but maybe next year. I have been so busy lately and as soon as October hits, these last few months seem to whiz by...I have joined Junior League of Los Angeles and things are getting really busy. I have attended several trainings already and trying to complete my hours. I am having a great time and I am meeting some amazing women. And finally, I have yet to post my vacation pictures (New York and Tennessee)- so here are a few, as promised. Can you all believe that Christmas is 83 days away?I am looking for some unique gifts for family and friends, so if you have any ideas, please send them my way...I especially love monogrammed gifts! Any ideas???

Well...I closed escrow on Friday and picked up the keys to my new home that afternoon. This long weekend was pretty busy. My parents helped me move my stuff on Saturday morning. Thanks to my nephew, mom, cousin and friend I got lots done on Saturday and of course we had to go shopping for a few things for the new house. Sunday we went to brunch in Laguna Beach and today it was back to shopping for the house. Here are a few pictures from this weekend. It looks like it is going to be a busy week ahead...and I still have yet to update my summer photos from June (OMG!).

In June, I went to New York City as part of a Teaching American History grant. I loved NYC! The following week, I met my nephew in Nashville, Tennessee. I fell in love with Tennessee last summer when I was there for an ASCD conference. I returned this summer with my nephew...we had a blast! We visited Nashville, Memphis and Franklin, Tennessee. I took close to 3000 photos and months later I am still sorting through them. The summer has been wonderful and I am looking forward to next summer- My plans are to visit Georgia and South Carolina next summer. Here is my newest hobby- Digital Scrap booking. I recently purchased (downloaded) Microsoft 2007 for my new netbook. I found a great deal- Microsoft Ultimate Steal- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, One Note, Groove, Publisher, Access and InfoPath 2007 for $59.95! I ended up buying the backup DVD for an additional $14.00- even though the netbook does not have a CD ROM. You need to go to the site and see if you qualify...the deal is for students only- However, as a school Principal, I used my school address and I qualified. So if anyone is looking for a great deal check it out here.

NYC and Nashville

I am so excited that in a few weeks I am participating in a Teaching American History grant in NYC! This federal grant is to promote history content for teachers. The expectation is that the content and experiences will increase student achievement- after all if history teachers are true history experts both in content and pedagogy they will be more effective in reaching and teaching students. As a school administrator, I am participating and will be required to complete the lessons and learning objectives, just like the teachers- the only difference is that I get to select which classroom and which group of students will receive my lesson. We have a full 5 days (minus 2 days of travel) of wonderful sights and sounds. Our itinerary includes: Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Harlem, Lower East Side, etc... Of course we have lots of free time- so I plan on going to Macy's, Lilly and Central Park. Once again I am asking for suggestions- please share with me your NYC must do's! I have the entire day FREE on Friday--so PLEASE- share your ideas-thanks! I already got tickets to two shows- Wicked and Jersey Boys.

I decided that since I was already across the country I would extend this trip and take my nephew, ERD, to Memphis to see Graceland- since he is such an Elvis fan-by the way he is only 12 years old. I guess I loved my trip last year to Nashville- because I changed my ticket to Nashville, not Memphis. What was I thinking? I wasn't. My nephew is planning on flying non-stop to Nashville. After some thought I guess it was a pretty good mistake because now we are planning on staying in Nashville and then driving to Memphis (3.5 hours away). So dear nephew will now have the experience of both Nashville and Memphis. My nephew loves ghost stories so we are planning on taking a Nashville Ghost Tour. I was thinking of taking him to the Grand Ole Opry, but I am not sure he knows that many Country singers- or at least not the ones that will be there when we are in town. I do know that I want to take him to Neely's BBQ- and of course we will go to Graceland the next day. Yet, I am looking for recommendations for things to do and see in both Nashville and Memphis...once again your expertise (as locals) will be so appreciated- I have yet to book our hotel in Memphis- so please offer some suggestions...On a personal note I am looking for puppy boutiques in NYC, Nashville and Memphis. Last summer I went to the cutest boutique in Nashville, called Lucky Pup. The link appears to be broken, so I am not sure if they are still in business. I have never been to Memphis and have no idea where to stay- so any recommendations would be totally helpful. Just like any other large city, I want to make the best of my time there...and avoid the rougher parts of town (if you know what I mean)...I am so excited and can't wait...best of all I have my new PINK netbook and plan on posting lots of pictures!

New Paper- New Hair- New Home

Yesterday I received a NoteBlock from Preppy Paper Girl! I can't wait to use it at work on Monday! I have found a new shop that is adorable and affordable! Thank you!

I also chopped my hair last weekend. I wanted to cut it shorter than normal, for the summer season. I planned on getting highlights but we ran out of time, so I need to go back. My hair grows so fast, so I figured what the heck.
I ended up getting my Pink netbook and I love it- can't wait to take it with me to NYC. I will be in NYC for one week with 25 teachers- I am so looking forward to the field study.

On the home front, I had my framing walk through last week- here I am signing my "signature" above the fireplace. I signed my name, the puppies, as well as my 2 nephews and niece...It will be neat to know that I have a special stamp that will always be a part of my house...So excited. I spent way more than I planned on all the upgrades- but it will be worth it- move in date is set for the middle of September!

Hello once again ladies- Happy Sunday! My school hosts an Academic Bowl each year and our coordinator, my good friend Mercedes, has for the past few years hosted a PartyLite candel party. I just purchased this netbook at Sam's Club. Does anyone have one? Love it? Hate it? I ordered it online and put a rush on delivery....I am hoping to take it with me to New York this summer. I was going to go to Houston for the ASCD conference, but due the economy, my school put a limit on travel! I was so bummed. But I ended up applying to participate in a Teaching American History grant and I was selected- so I am new going to NYC as part of a field study for American History. We are planning on going to Cold Spring Harbor (FDR), the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, etc. As part of our "free time" a few teachers and I are going to see Wicked and Jersey Boys. Has anyone seen these shows? Did you love them? I am really excited. We are staying at the Hilton on the Avenue of the Americans- just a few miles away, from a few Lilly stores! I already mapquest the Lilly store on Madison Ave, as well as a Lord and Taylor, Magic Windows, and Paragon Sport- all which carry Lilly and are close enough to visit. OK- you all were great when I asked for "THINGS TO DO" in Houston- I now need your help, once again- for THINGS to DO while I am in New York. I have only been to NYC once before and I was 10 years old! So please help me make the most of my week there- please advise me on THE MUSTs...I will be there from June 20-27! I am sure the weather will be perfect (wink!)! Any suggestions would be truly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Dream Home...UNDER CONSTRUCTION

I finally sold my 1st home after being on the market for 10 months. I had to lower my price a few times, but in the end, it sold and I had a down payment for my Dream Home. My new home is being built...and it will take 6 months before I get to move in. In the meantime, there are lots of decisions. There are upgrades for everything-tile, flooring, sinks, security, paint, counter tops, cabinets, built ins, electrical, wiring, etc. I had no idea. It is actually a bit overwhelming and I just can't get into it- it seems more frustrating than enjoyable...so I have had my mom make most of the decisions, since she has a eye for these kind of things and she is having a ball- she keeps saying there is no budget, which makes me so nervous, since I AM the one paying. I definitely know what I like and everything I seem to like is a level 4 upgrade (meaning the MOST expensive!). We did decided to have the entire downstairs tiled- after all I do have 3 Yorkie puppies and carpet is an absolute NO! Wood flooring will be upstairs and my cabinetry will be dark wood. My bathroom and the guest bathroom downstairs will match. And we upgraded my entire kitchen. I will continue to post pictures as the building progresses... Here are some pictures of my home (under construction), the clubhouse, inside the clubhouse, the kid zone, pool, patio and BBQs.

UCLA Day & Beverly HIlls

Last weekend I took my nephew, ERD, to UCLA Day. UCLA Day is an annual event for alumni to reconnect and re-familiarize themselves with the school and all the happenings. ERD and I arrived in the morning. I took him to the amazing bookstore. He loved it. We had lunch on the plaza and sat in the Greek section. Later in the day we took a bus tour and drove by the fraternities...he really wasn't impressed with the frat houses! LOL! Sadly my sorority house (Delta Zeta) was no longer on sorority row- it was torn down making way for graduate/professor housing (my chapter has been inactive since 1991). ERD went rock climbing, played dodge ball and overall he had a great time. I was so impressed with the new housing (air conditioned) and the huge dining halls. Best of all students now register via the Internet...no longer do they have to register and wait in line in front of Murphy Hall! Of course we left a bit early and went to the Lilly store in Santa Monica. I bought some Mother's Day gifts and I bought some gifts for me too! I purchased Lilly pencils, stickers, file folders, Lilly perfume (WINK) and round note cards! After we left Santa Monica, ERD wanted to go see homes in Beverly Hills. So I drove around as he snapped pictures of some of his favorite homes. He really liked the silver fire hydrants!

Puppies Bike Trailer

March and April have been very BUSY months... I have lots to share (ie. home finally sold, purchasing a new home, selecting all design items for new home (flooring, cabinets, tile, upgrades, paint, etc) and lots of pictures to post, but each time I planed on uploading pictures I get too lazy! When I finally got around to uploading pictures my computer caught a virus. It then took a few days for my comp tech at school to clean it up- but I am now back- up and running.

I got a new PINK beach cruiser this week and of course I needed to get something to haul the puppies in to take them along for the ride...I wanted a wicker basket, but the baskets were too small and they looked a bit uncomfortable. While at the bike shop I saw a small bike trailer. I wanted a PINK trailer to match my bike, but no such luck. I bought the trailer and the puppies love it! I have them secured with a harness. The trailer provides a net cover and a vinyl cover for wind and cold weather. The only problem is that puppies won't sit still for me to place them in the seat belts. LOL! J/K It is a great little trailer and so far I have only had ONE near crash. I can't seem to figure out the break gears on my bike and it is not so easy looking in the rear view mirror while riding a bike. I guess I may need some more practice. I forgot how fun it is to ride a bike!

It's been a long month (meaning the month that just ended)-but the good news is that my house SOLD! Buyers fund tomorrow and escrow closes on Thursday (love 30 day escrows)The house has been on the market with my current realtor since late October. I had to reduce the price (thanks to the people who attempted to live and buy above their means) but ended up on the plus side; so I am pretty excited. I lived there 8 years~ It was my first home but I am so ready to move on to a brand new home... More news to follow!

Basket from Millie's Dancewear as part of the Silent Auction This month is flying by...we went to my nephew's fashion show earlier this month. The Fashion Show is the school's annual fundraiser. Tickets are sold, dinner is served and the students and some parents participate in a fashion show. There is also a silent auction. Last year I won a huge basket of Gold Canyon Candles and a basket of office supplies (I LOVE pens and office supplies)- so this was a must win. This year I place my bid on the candles and I sat at the table the last 15 minutes of the auction and I was outbid. Next year I am standing by the basket of candles until the auction closes! My parents donated some items- 2 Brighton bags (dedicated in memory of both of my grandmothers) and a PINK basket full of dance apparel- which was bought from my best friends shop.

Last last weekend my Best Friend and I went to our cities "beauty" pageant...I am not sure if beauty pageant is politically correct, after all they referred to the traditional bathing suit competition as the physically fit portion of the competition. This was the first pageant I have ever attended and even though it was on a local level it was pretty fun. My BF's employee WON the competition. It was her first pageant and she truly was the winner- she was so genuine, smart and talented. Some of the other young ladies were "pageant veterans" and it was obvious that they simply wanted the crown. Miss Beauty Queen is now on her way to Fresno this summer for the Miss California competition! Have any of you participated in pageants?

It was fun, except YOU actually have to do the work and prep the dinners! Gosh! I did make one dinner and then I was done... I really don't like manual labor! LOL! House for Sale...Crafts and A Long Weekend

So I have been trying to sell my 1923 craftsman home...After 8 years the old charm is enough and I want to buy a new home! It's been 9 months and well I am sure you all know that the market is not the most ideal to sell a home...I have lowered my price three times, but the foreclosures in the area are not helping. I have had 2 offers fall through which make the process that much more frustrating. At this point I am simply reminding myself to be patient and realize that I am not in control...so I have been praying and am anxious to see what this new year will bring...

I am going to work on some crafts tonight and will post them tomorrow. They are similar to the ones I made in December...Tell me what you think...I plan on offering these for a GIVEAWAY.

I had a great LONG weekend. School was out on Friday- I lounged ALL DAY in my PJs! Oh what fun! Yesterday I went to visit a friend and then my BF Katie and one of my teacher's (co-worker) went to Ketchup in West Hollywood. The food was yummy (Kobe Beef Sliders- appetizer and Trout) and the company was awesome-thanks girls for a fun "Single Girl's Valentine's Night!" And just like the selling of my house, in the romance department, I am anxious to see what this new year will bring...

The puppies had a treat today. I had a mobile groomer come to the house to bathe them. In addition they got their nails cut, ears cleaned and teeth brushed ($5.00 extra)! Grandma (Nana) and Grandpa (Papa) babysit them daily, so they loaded them in the mobile groomers right outside the front of the house. Nana said they all did well- they tend to have some separation anxiety when they go the "drop off" and "stay a few hours" groomer. I was pleased with their cuts, so I am now off to save another mini fortune for their next bath and cut!

Super Bowl SUPER Weekend

I had a great fun packed weekend...Saturday night I went out with Twin, BF Katie and Tracy. We went to a Mediterranean restaurant in the Village... We happened to see a darling Art shop- I left my camera at home so I asked BF Katie to take a picture of these "art" cupcakes...Darling, huh? Once we were at dinner I ordered the Trout since I was feeling pretty good. I weighed in at Weight Watchers that morning and I had lost 1.4 lbs...I am currently down 5 pounds!

We had a great time, as usual. Sunday I had plans to go to Mahe for an all you can drink and eat sushi party!

Boy was it fabulous- I may have gained back my 1.4 lbs and then some... We ate sushi, Kobe Sliders and lots of yummy (point filled) Cocktails- but we had such a good time cheering and watching the SB commercials.

I am so excited! I am going to HOUSTON, TX this summer for a conference with one of my Assistant Principal's, some teachers and support staff. We will be there for a few days in June...We will be staying at the Hilton Americas Houston. I have already done some significant research and I plan on stopping by Funny Fur to pick up a few goodies for the Furbabies...but I need some help! Given my limited time there I am wanting to know where and what I must not miss...any local BESTS would be appreciated (best restaurants, shopping venues, museums and or local/downtown attractions?!) If you have any ideas I' d really like the help. If anyone knows any Lilly or Lilly-like boutiques, please let me know! Based on last years experience our free time will typically be after the conference seminars which should end by 3 pm each day. Last summer a few colleagues and I went to Nashville, Tennessee. We went to President Andrew Jackson's home (The Hermitage), passed through Vanderbilt University and ate local Bar-B-Que. Yum! While there of course, I made it point to stop at 2 amazing dog boutiques, Posh Puppy (it has since gone out of business) and Lucky Pup...It was tons of fun and I want to take advantage of visiting another wonderful state...so please let me know your ideas and recommendations!

This weekend I participated in a History workshop. Originally I thought the topic was Lincoln as a Wartime President. When I arrived I realized that this month's topic was Vietnam. So once there I had to make a huge shift in my historical thinking...The workshop was amazing. The scholar was awesome and the resources provided were amazing. I am just amazed at the limited number of teachers who participate in these FREE workshops! These workshops are designed to improve teacher's content knowledge... and I always walk away with something new! It is just so sad that teacher's don't take advantage of these opportunities; yet they are eager to criticize NCLB and former President Bush. I just don't get it- oh well. Like I said, I learned a lot and got great resources and an great book by Robert Marzano, Building Academic Vocabulary. Check out sample chapters HERE! Twin and I stayed at the hotel- another FREEBIE...it is almost like a mini retreat. Here are pictures of our room and hotel. On Saturday night two of our girlfriends from high school, BF Katie and Machal met us for drinks. We had such a wonderful time- we laughed so much I was afraid twin and I would go into an asthma attack! It was amazing! I have such great friends, I am truly blessed! The workshop ended this afternoon and I hope to implement what I learned tomorrow- or at least I plan on sharing what I learned with my teachers who will listen! Oh and a follow up on my Weight Watchers journey...I have lost 4 pounds thus far. I was hoping to lose at least 2 pounds per week, but the last 2 weeks I only lost 1/2 as much as I had planned...nonetheless I continue to lose...so it's ok to call me a LOSER!

Two Weeks in One Post

Its been a hectic few weeks, with jam pack weekends. The last few weekends have been marked with Sushi, Kirin Light, Coors Light, Best Friends, and lots of fun. Twin, best friend Katie and I did our usual Target outing. I went for one thing and left with a million items in my basket...and I have no idea who would have lined up these greeting cards in such order!

After Target and The Dollar Tree we headed to dinner- Japanese of course, our favorite!

Waiting to be seated we wasted no time and did what we all seem to do now...non-stop texting.

And no need to worry- I will more than gladly drink my points, than eat my points. My best friend Katie and I, along with another gal pal have located a nice wine and art gallery in our hometown. We have been "regulars" there the last few weekends as well. It is such a cozy place and so close to home.

Finally this past weekend, twin, Katie and I met our good friend Paul for dinner. I had the BEST pear martini! The food was delish and the laughs and friendships were filling!

This weekend I have a professional development workshop- the topic is Lincoln as a War Time President- now how can I miss that!? The nice part is that we get great materials and get to listen to scholars and we even get to stay overnight at a hotel- which is so relaxing. I plan on taking my nephew, since he loves staying at hotels and running up on my tab on room service. Oh well! Have a great weekend and I hope to post some more photos at the end of this weekend!

Lunch and a Movie

Sunday- Our last day of vacation before it is back to full-time reality...WORK on Monday. I ended up joining Weight Watchers this weekend...I really need to lose some serious weight. The good thing is that I can still go out to eat with the girls (maybe not at Bob's Big Boy). Today, BF Katie, Twin and I went to eat sushi. I noticed a sticker on twins car that I had never noticed before...sort of like the inspector tag/sticker you get on cheap clothes.

Interesting...When we arrived the restaurant had not opened so we decided to go and check out what movies were playing- at that time we decided to see a movie after lunch.

We ate sushi (yum) and then went to see Benjamin Button- a real cute movie! The movie was a bit long- we entered the theater during daylight and left when it was dark out and so cold, too! Again, we had a great time- especially listening to all of Twin's stupid and snide remarks...What a perfect start to this new year...I am truly spoiled by my friends and family!

Happy New Year's!

Happy New Year's! It's amazing that 2009 is here- The last few months of the year seem to zoom on by, particularly beginning in October (Halloween). I can never seem to get a handle on how fast the time goes by...I am still in awe that the fall/winter holidays are now a memory, but somewhat relieved. The holidays are a whirlwind and a bit of a stresser- and I don't even host or cook for the holidays! But the New Year always seems to bring a fresh new perspective...a time for setting new goals and for me this year the start of a year I plan to document via photos and the web. This Christmas I received my 1st digital camera- so there is no excuse. I plan on documenting the memories! Let me start with December 30- the eve before NYE I went out for dinner and drinks with my twin and our girlfriends from high school! We had so much fun...we always do when we get together. We decided that night that we would spend NYE low key... partying in PJs.

We spent Christmas Eve at twin's...it was so much fun! All of my favorite family and friends were present...except for Aunt Diana and later that night Brother and SIL and kids came down from Northern Cal, along with their 2 cute dogs: Sugar and Almond. Thanks to Kate, Sylvia and the kids for making it to twin's...it is GREAT to have you share the holiday's with me and my family! Sylvia~thanks for the AMAZING gift! I wonder what we will get each other next year! LOL! I am thankful for all my gifts; esp. my Chelsea Handler book and my PINK camera! Thanks Kate and Twin.
The day after Christmas BF Kate, twin, nephew and I went to Target for the after Christmas sale at 7 am- a yearly tradition. We made it to 2 Target's, Kohl's (which had all items ridiculously overpriced even though most items were 70% off), Bed, Bath and Beyond, Home Goods, etc. It was a full day ~ we started a new tradition of going bowling following our shopping spree. Today I sent my Christmas Ornament Swap Buddy her ornament. I thought the ornament was adorable and I hope she does too! While at the same time I got a darling ornament from my Secret Blogger- I am not sure if I am supposed to reveal yet or not, so I will wait until tomorrow to post a picture and publicly thank my Swap Buddy. It was back to work today and the day seemed so LONG! I ended up leaving a bit early to go and get a mani and pedi! Mom, twin and I went to Nordstrom's yesterday and we got some pretty goodies- I will share a few of my favorites!

Cashmere Gloves- I got these as a gift for someone and threw in a pair for myself- I couldn't resist.

Juicy Cupcake Necklace- I was going to get this for a co-worker, but ended up deciding it may look better on me! I am so bad! After all how wrong would it be for a Principal to buy a gift just for one employee? That would be so not fair to all my other teacher's and support staff.

Ok- honestly was anyone else disappointed with Oprah's Favorite Things? I won't spoil it for anyone who has the episode Tivo'ed and has yet to watch it, but selfishly I was waiting to see the neat treats she has each year.

Nonetheless, I have found a few goodies that I'd either like to get either for myself or for friends & family. I found this cute cupcake piggy bank (via Nordstrom.com).

I also think Juicy candle is adorable (hint!). And finally, pictured above are some cute ornaments that are at Nordstrom...I plan on doing some serious shopping tomorrow with my mom and twin. Hopefully we will find some good deals...I'll post the goodies tomorrow for you all to see...

This upcoming week is going to be busy- the first week of the month always starts with several meetings. The meetings pull me away from the school site, therefore once I get back to the site, I seem to have more work than usual. At the end of the week, I plan on volunteering at a fundraiser for Nie Nie- you can go here to read about her recovery. Later that night my hometown has its annual Christmas parade. The parade route goes right past my best friends' store, so we have VIP seats, more importantly we have access to a clean bathroom! Finally, I plan on having the puppies photographed- I have yet to choose a photographer- so if anyone has recommendations for a reasonably priced, but talented Southern California photographer, please let me know!

Well I couldn't wait for Christmas, so I bought myself an iPod. I got the i Pod Nano in Pink (of course). I just sync'ed some photos and have yet to sync my songs. I cancelled my subscription to Rhapsody- I didn't realize that even with a paid subscription, I can't burn the songs- so now I am not sure what I was paying for- oh well. I also figured out how to download pocasts and use the iTunes U. I am now off to Fresh and Easy. My nephew is going with me- it is his favorite store, esp. since our store has a self check out. Looks like we are going to get some baking items- not sure yet what we are going to make, I'll have to let you know later!

Today I attended a few meetings at the District office. I was planning on attending one meeting and returning to school, however, I was pulled into a curriculum meeting and then decided to attend an attendance meeting- overall the day was a success- lots of operational items were taken care of. I will start tomorrow off like today at a meeting (DOJ meeting)- however there are some really effective and smart people at this meeting, so I don't mind attending- I don't feel as if I am wasting my time. I am a principal at a juvenile hall and I jokingly say that our school could be a reality TV show...there is always something going on~ I guess if I start blogging about juvenile hall I will have to make this a PRIVATE BLOG- until then I will speak in general terms. :)

I am not sure why some people at work shop for answers- have you ever experienced this? When someone comes to me and asks me a question and I give them a response, why do they continue to ask the same question? "I already gave you an answer"...Asking me again is not going to change my answer. Duh!

I was able to avoid most staff members today since I worked at the counselor's desk in the assessment center, it is one of the last classrooms at the end of the hallway, and the desk is in the back corner of this room (Which is currently vacant-Anyone looking to be an academic counselor at Juvenile Hall? I have an opening!)It was nice being able to get away from the hustle and bustle of the "Principal's Office." But after lunch reality set in and I returned to my office to work on transcripts, answer emails and phone calls.

When I got home I worked on some Christmas yard stakes that I plan on selling/donating to my nephew's school. I am making a few with simple traditional messages, such as: "Merry Christmas, Jingle all the Way, Joy to the World." The wood signs are painted- all I need to do now is add some pretty Christmas ribbon/bows and hammer or glue them to a stake...Tell me what you think...

Ladies~I need your suggestions and recommendations on digital cameras. Most blogs I follow showcase some beautiful pictures- what kind of camera do you use? Here is what I have found so far-Canon - PowerShot 8.0MP Digital ELPH Camera - Pink...what do you think? At least it's PINK!

All I want for Christmas...

Ok...I have a small list of items I'd actually love to get for Christmas (pay attention family and friends). Have you all seen the Tiffany charms? They are adorable...I'd love to have the following charms: The Palm Tree, the Apple, the Cupcake, the Blue Tiffany Box, the Dog Bone and the Eiffel Tower, and the Crown Charm! You can go to the Tiffany site and create your own bracelet or necklace. I also want a digital camera. Can you believe that I don't have a digital camera? I am not sure about the brand- I have some research to do- I want something that is user friendly. If anyone has a suggestion/recommendation, please let me know! Thanks. And finally, I think I'd like an iPod Touch. Maybe this will motivate me to exercise! Too bad it doesn't come in Pink! Even Lincoln has a Pink iPaw. Oh well...Happy Monday!

Happy Sunday Night! I am so excited that I was able to set up my blog...I am taking the day off tomorrow, so I plan on becomming an expert by tomorrow! It is very similar to Word Press, but much easier... Twin and I went to The Country General Store. Of course those of you who know twin, know that she walked in with a 40% off coupon! She ended up getting a cute Thanksgiving wreath...I got Eric a cute tealight holder along with some McCall Candles- My absolute favorite is Campfire Marshallow!
